Research from all over the world underscores a simple fact: one can decrease the risk of a malignancy. How? Keep a healthy weight. Be physically active. Make whole grains, vegetables, fruits and beans part of your daily diet. Limit high-fat, high-sugar fast foods, especially those containing processed meat (e.g., hot dogs, cold cuts, bacon, etc.) Limit consumption of red meat. Drink mostly water, not sweetened drinks. Enjoy no more than two alcoholic drinks a day. Breastfeed babies, if possible. Don’t get excessive exposure to the sun and see a psychiatrist if you’re still smoking.
