Read the Classics of Medicine
21 Apr 2025
There are hundreds of outstanding books about the history of medicine, momentous discoveries, and the people who made them. But a few stand out as favourites. Microbe Hunters by Paul de Kruif is one of them, and it’s still easy to find. Another is Sir William Osler’s A Way of Life, an essay in which he argued for a strong code of ethics in medicine. And for a lighthearted take on the medical profession, pick up any of the Herman books by Jim Unger.
